Palestinian terrorists fire a Qassam rocket at Moshav Tel Katifa in the Gaza Strip, lightly injuring an Israeli civilian.

Two IDF soldiers are lightly wounded during a counter-terrorism operation in Khan Yhunis (southern Gaza). In addition, an Israel Air Force (IAF) strike in the area kills three Hamas terrorists.

December 29, 2004:

Palestinian terrorists wound two IDF soldiers guarding an Israeli civilian vehicular convoy in northwestern Samaria (West Bank). Palestinians also fire mortars at the Israeli community of Kfar Darom (Gaza Strip), lightly wounding a foreign worker.

The Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade announces the development of the Yasser Arafat missile. The Arafat missile will have a range of 18 kilometers (11 miles) and is slated to carry a 33-pound warhead.

Prime Minster Ariel Sharon informs the Knesset Foreign Affairs Committee that Gaza terrorist groups are now in possession of shoulder-mounted missiles. The Prime Minister also notes mounting concerns that Palestinian terrorists may attempt to shoot down Israeli crop dusters flying over agricultural zones near the Gaza Strip.

December 24, 2004:

Palestinian terrorists fire mortars at the Israeli community of Nevei Dekalim. No injuries reported.

December 23, 2004:

Twenty-six mortars are fired Thursday morning at Gush Katif - the largest single barrage ever fired at Israeli Gaza communities by Palestinian terrorists. One injury, as well as property damage, has been reported.

December 22, 2004:

Palestinian terrorists kill an Israeli civilian guarding a section of the security fence (west of Hebron). The security guard was shot in his stomach and died a short time after the attack took place.

December 22, 2004:

The Israel National News website is reporting that Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip are producing RPG anti-tank weapons - based on a former Soviet design. In addition, according a senior Israeli security source, the precision, size and quality of Palestinian mortars fired against Israeli targets has recently improved.

December 21, 2004:

The radar component of the joint US-Israeli Nautilus (THEL) is slated for imminent deployment near Sderot. The radar may aid the IDF in tracking incoming Palestinian missiles, rockets, and mortars.

Currently, the IDF maintains an early-warning tracking system in the northern Gaza Strip based on the Artillery Corp's TPQ radar. However, the TPQ is less advanced.

The THEL, designed to track and destroy incoming rockets, cruise missiles, UAV's, artillery rounds and mortars, will not be battle-ready until at least 2007.

December 21, 2004:

Palestinian terrorists launch anti-tank missiles at the Israeli community of Netzarim in the Gaza Strip. Heavy damage to a synagogue is being reported. Palestinian terrorists also fire mortars at an Israeli kindergarten in the Gaza Strip, and Qassam rockets at Sderot.

December 20, 2004:

Gaza Developments: Israel Air Force Rescue Robot Navigates Tunnels


A robot, originally utilized by the Israel Air Force rescue squad, has been fitted with a compass and transmitter. The robot will be used to explore and identify Palestinian smuggling tunnel routes, allowing IDF soldiers to remain aboveground during the process. This measure was implemented following the deaths of several IDF soldiers involved in tunnel excavations.

IDF forces operate in Khan Yhunis (southern Gaza Strip.) 8 Palestinian terrorists are killed. One IDF soldier suffers light to moderate wounds from an anti-tank missile during the operation. Palestinian terrorists also fire Qassam rockets at an industrial area in the Israeli city of Sderot (western Negev), as well as at a residential section of the city.
