29-30, 2005:
IDF forces seize approximately 52 handguns, 100 handgun ammunition clips, and 20 various assault rifles from Palestinian smugglers along the Israel-Egypt border in the Rafah area. In the first incident, IDF forces identify a terrorist infiltrating the Israel-Egypt border via a "no access" zone. The terrorist is apprehended, and found to be carrying 29 hand guns, 67 ammunition clips, a sniper rifle, and ammunition clip. In the second incident, three Palestinians infiltrating the Israel-Egypt border are apprehended by IDF forces. The Palestinians are carrying 10 AK-47 assault rifles, 10 assault rifle ammunition clips, 24 hand guns, and 36 hand gun ammunition clips. In addition, Palestinian terrorists fire at IDF forces along the Philadelphi route along the Israel-Egypt border. Israeli security sources voice concern that anti-aircraft missiles recently smuggled into the Gaza Strip may be be transferred to the West Bank and used against commerical aircraft flying over central Israel (landing or taking off from Ben Gurion International Airport). Palestinian terrorists fire at IDF forces near Nablus (West Bank). No injuries reported. In addition, IDF forces arrest a Palestinian near Hebron (West Bank) after a small weapons depot (which included bullets and grenades) was found in his house. March 28, 2005:
Palestinian terrorists fire a mortar at the Israeli community of Netzarim (Gaza Strip). No injuries or damage reported. Palestinian terrorists also fire at IDF forces along the Israel-Egypt border, near Rafah (Gaza Strip). In addition, IDF forces and Israeli security personnel arrest an Islamic Jihad cell in the Jenin area (West Bank) engaged in the manufacture of Qassam rockets. According to the IDF, the terrorists had conducted "shooting experiments" to develop and enhance the capabilities of the rockets. Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz states that members of the Palestinian Authority's military intelligence service are involved in the smuggling of shoulder-launched Strela anti-aircraft missiles into Egypt from the Gaza Strip via tunnels in the Rafah area.
